Britain Considers Lifting Sunday Dancing Ban|
The British government proposed removal of the 1780 Sunday Observances Act, which forbids commercially-organized dances on Sundays, according to a recent AP report.
The revised law would allow organizers to "charge for public dances..on Sundays and serve alcohol until a half-hour after midnight." The law will have relaxed provisions allowing licensing authorities to make special provisions for the day, on a case-by-case basis.
"Be it line dancing..[or] ballroom dancing.. it is plainly daft to have a ban on dancing because it is a Sunday," Government minister Mike O'Brien told AP. "If people want a bit of 'Sunday Night Fever,' that's fine by me."
