Lincoln Center Kicks Off Summer Night Swing Series

New York, NY -- Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing's 16th season features five weeks of dancing to a wide and eclectic range of music and dance styles, from Latin to swing and ballroom to zydeco, under the stars at Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza.

Swing kicks off this summer on June 10 with a tribute to the music of two great Big Band Masters - Count Basie and Glenn Miller - as performed by NYC's top 17-piece big band, The George Gee Swing Orchestra. A new generation of Swing/Jump Blues phenoms, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, will dazzle the dance floor with their new brand of swing on June 16. The festival will also feature the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (July 6), the Harry James Orchestra (July 13), and El Polcer and the Magic of Swing Street who will take us back to the smoky jazz clubs of New York's famed W. 52nd Street (June 22). The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra under the leadership of Arturo O'Farill with special guest Pacquito D'Rivera (June 23), the Harbour Latin Big Band playing the music of Tito Puente, Machito, and other Latin greats (June 17), Son Boricua (June 26), Los Macondos de Colombia (June 24) and Tiempo Libre (June 29) will also be featured. Additional Midsummer highlights include rockabilly and alternative country favorites Rosie Flores (June 25), The Uptown Horns' Soul Shingaling Revue featuring Howard Tate (July 3), and Louisiana's own Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Runners (July 14). Two Saturday afternoons devoted to Dancing for Kids will again be a part of the festival (June 26 and July 10). Perennial Midsummer legend Illinois Jacquet and His Big Band will close the festival (July 16) for an unprecedented 16th year in a row. Dance lessons take place each evening at 6:30 PM, and are included in the price of admission, with live music beginning at 7:30 PM. Instruction and dancing take place at Lincoln Center's outdoor dance club on Josie Robertson Plaza, complete with raised wooden floor and bandstand.
