The web site, designed in an online magazine format, focuses on swing, big-band, jump blues and rockabilly music. It provides swing music news, dancing information, an online chat lounge and a comprehensive link directory to over hundreds of swing-oriented links to other sites on the Internet. The site is operated and run by 21-year old San Diego resident, Douglas LeClair. LeClair is a senior attending Point Loma University, a four-year San Diego school, and is majoring in mass communications. "I created Any Swing Goes to be a resource for other people who are interested in swing music and dancing." LeClair said. "I want to reach as many people as I can who share the same musical interests as I do." News and reviews on the site are gathered from volunteer reporters scattered all over the map who are able to post concert reviews, information, and events. Reporters range in age from their teens to their late sixties. The site will also feature RealAudio real-time audio sound bites from retro swing albums. The goal of the web site is to be a dynamic resource and forum for interaction among swing enthusiasts of all ages. The site will also feature message boards for users to communicate with one another, and a matching system to find local swing dancing partners. Visitors can drop into the chat lounge that will feature national swing acts with whom users can interact. Any Swing Goes is also proud to be in association with Amazon.com, self-proclaimed as the "Earth's Biggest Bookstore" to offer an online special-interest bookstore full of discounted books pertaining to swing music, artist biographies, and even period fiction novels. "Popular modern movies like Swing Kids, and Swingers are making use of big band music that was popular in the 1930’s and 1940’s exposing it to kids who haven’t heard that kind of music before. I think it is making a resurgence with the youth of today." explained LeClair. "You know the revival is happening when Sing Sing Sing turns up in Chips Ahoy commercials and there is people swinging to Louis Prima in khaki clothing advertisements." The web site’s name is a play off of the Cole Porter song "Anything Goes", and embodies the theory that any type of swing music "goes". In addition to working on the web site, LeClair regularly writes for M2, MTV’s twenty-four hour music and news station, MTV-Online, and acts as the program director for his college’s radio station. The content of the site is changed regularly. # # # Related Links www.anyswinggoes.com Any Swing Goes homepage |
